What measures have ARTSTRONAUTS put in place during the novel coronavirus period?
Many parents and students are understandably concerned about the developments surrounding the novel coronavirus.

Our programmes remain fully operational and will go on as usual. Our students and parents feel safe and confident about the measures put in place so that learning can go on without disruption.

ARTSTRONAUTS have put in place the recommended precautionary measures to safeguard the well-being of our teachers, students and their homes. Teachers are requird to take and declare their temperature to through the Mission Control at least 1 hour prior to the class. Teachers will also perform sanitisation of their hands upon entering the home.

Students who are unable to attend their reserved classes, either due to LOA, or by self exclusion of classes due to any reason, will be advised to reschedule their missed classes within the 30 Days Rescheduling Window. Please note that normal rescheduling policy applies.

Please read the Rescheduling Policy, as students who reschedule to another calendar week will then be attending 2 classes per week.
What is the difference between ARTSTRONAUTS & ARTARY Fine Art?
ARTSTRONAUTS is the exclusive home-based provider of ARTARY’s Fine Art premium suite of children’s art programmes. There are no differences in the programme, or policies for students in ARTARY campuses, or ARTSTRONAUTS home-based students.

However, there are several adaptations and fee differences, due to the classes being held at home, instead of in ARTARY’s campuses.

How do I transfer between ARTARY Fine Art & ARTSTRONAUTS?
It’s easy! In most cases, ARTARY Fine Art & ARTSTRONAUTS can expect seamless transfer between in-campus & home-based.

ARTSTRONAUTS students who, due to their learning preferences, opt to participate in a common programme with different age siblings or friends, should understand that the common programme may not be age-appropriate for all students. When these students transfer to ARTARY Fine Art in-campus, they may then be expected to be placed accurately into their age-appropriate programmes.

After the transfer, students should remain in their new programmes for at least 8 weeks.

Students may arrange for this transfer by contacting Mission Control.
When should my child begin the programme?
As ARTSTRONAUTS’ programmes do not follow a term schedule, students may join our programmes at any time. Our programmes run all year round, even during mainstream school holidays.

We encourage students to enrol as soon as they have a stable schedule (e.g. every Saturday, 9am.) ARTSTRONAUTS welcomes changes to session timings should the need arise.

Students may arrange for permanent change of classes by contacting Mission Control.
Can you help to prepare a portfolio for art school (e.g. SOTA) admissions?
To apply for admission to art schools, generally, candidates must go through a selection process that includes a portfolio review, an audition and an interview. Actual selection process depends on the school you are applying to.

All of ARTSTRONAUTS’ programmes are designed to build up a diversified portfolio of works progressively over the span of the programme. Students are exposed to a range of technical skills, both in 2D and 3D works, and sculptures. Sketchbook work is also an essential part of the creative process in class. Students will record thoughts, compose, perform sketches, images and/or writings in the Sketchbook to demonstrate the flow of art creation. Most in-class exercises and practises will also be done on the Sketchbook. Students typically can expect to prepare for one artwork in two weeks (2 classes).

Students who require a portfolio within an accelerated time frame should contact Mission Control for a discussion.

Students should prepare for any auditions or interviews, if any, independently.

*Actual time span required to prepare your portfolio dependent on students’ attendance, number of completed artworks, and students’ selection to admit their individual artworks into the portfolio.
Did my child complete the work independently? That does not seem to be her standard.
Students are expected to complete their works independently. The programmes are structured such that the required skill levels are higher than what the students can achieve. The programmes are designed to allow students to acquire and master the required skills during sessions. Throughout the session, mentors will provide constant and dedicated supervision, guidance and encouragement, something which may not be present when at home or in their schools. For each stroke that you see, there have been numerous prior amendments! In situations where students are unable to display the required skills, mentors are required to demonstrate and assist alongside students. Appropriate and adequate assistance has proven to be beneficial for students:
  • Demonstration of required skills, so that students recognises and understands the expectations
  • Heighten expectations of the students, so that students become accustomed to a high standards of art
  • Artwork must be completed every time, to build up students’ stamina, and so that students can still understand the intended art piece for future practices
Mentors abides by the following rules when demonstrating or assisting:
  • Use size guides, stencils or dotted lines for assistance
  • May assist to complete a task, only if the time permitted for the task is over
To accurately represent every students’ progress and skill level, mentors will feedback whenever assistance was provided.

Through practices, students will improve, and eventually be able to complete majority of their tasks independently.
When will my child progress to the next programme/level?
Students will, in general, progress between levels according to the recommended age of the levels. Students who reach the upper age limit of their level, and have demonstrated good mastery of the required skills, will be arranged to advance to the next level. Students who are due for advancement based on age, but have not demonstrated the required mastery of skills, will be recommended to remain in their current level for three (3) more months, before advancing to the next level.

Every students’ expected advancement date is stated on the online e-Services portal.
My child cannot make it back home on time from school! (or … I forgot there was class today! or … He fell sick suddenly! or … She couldn’t wake up!)
If the class was not rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance from the class, which results in the teacher being present at student(s)’ home for class, the student(s)’ will be charged full price for the class.

We seek your kind understanding.
What happens if I cannot attend a session? Can I reschedule?
ARTSTRONAUTS has a very flexible rescheduling policy. If your child cannot make it for their scheduled session, you may reschedule to other available sessions within the same calendar week, since the week’s artwork will not be revisited once the week is over.

Reschedule Policy: Reschedule within the same week to reschedule to attend YOUR PROGRAMME. Otherwise, reschedule to other weeks within 30 days Rescheduling Window to a DIFFERENT PROGRAMME (Attend 2 classes in a week, 1 class in your programme (mandatory) + 1 make up class in different programme) Subject to availability of classes.

View Students may arrange for reschedules through: Mission Control.

If the class was not rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance from the class, which results in the teacher being present at student(s)’ home for class, the student(s)’ will be charged full price for the class.
Why is the class rescheduled to another programme?
The progression of all ARTSTRONAUTS’ programmes are synchronised with ARTARY’s programmes. Students on ARTSTRONAUTS are performing the same artworks in the same time period as students in ARTARY campuses.

Please understand that all missed classes are considered to be consumed. As a gesture of goodwill, students are still allowed to reschedule their missed class within the 30 days Rescheduling Window.
  • Students who reschedule within the same week will be able to participate in YOUR PROGRAMME.
  • Reschedules to other weeks will be in a DIFFERENT PROGRAMME.

After the calendar week has past, all artworks and objectives of the programme will have progressed and previous week artworks will not be revisited. Therefore, reschedules after the calendar week will be in a DIFFERENT PROGRAMME & ARTWORK.

If any class is not rescheduled within the same calendar week, we cannot guarantee completion of artwork both artworks. Students are strongly recommended to plan their schedules carefully.
We did not attend a class we reserved. How do I request for a refund?
Art is an unique activity which requires specialised materials every class. Every week, students take on different learning objectives and utilise a wide variety of specialised materials prepared for the best learning experience.

Missing classes due to medical reasons are commonplace, and we understand that such incidents are not the wish of parents. However, please understand that the campus operates on only the basis of your reservations, and have already procured, provided and consumed the art materials, teaching and training resources, expecting students to be present on the day of class.

The concept is similar to an airline flight reservation. Passengers who miss flights will understand that all resources reserved for the passenger (e.g. flight seat, in-flight meals etc.) are considered to be consumed, and cannot be refunded.

If you have missed a class, please reschedule your class to an available class in within the 30 days Rescheduling Window. For students who have missed their rescheduled classes, we regret that no further rescheduling will be provided.

Students may reschedule their classes within the 30 days Rescheduling Window (and no questions asked!) through the Mission Centre.

If the class was not rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance from the class, which results in the teacher being present at student(s)’ home for class, the student(s)’ will be charged full price for the class.

Is there a disciplinary policy?
We committed to ensure that every student is able to spend meaningful time, and enjoy the best art experience in the campus. Every student is expected to participate and respond appropriately in a small group setting. This is to preserve a good learning environment for each and every student. As such, we have a “time out” policy which will be implement for students who appear to be disrupting the session or peers. We may “time out” students as often as required, until the student is able to respond appropriately during the session. Common scenarios where students will be be given “time out” are:
  • Running about the room
  • Shouting
  • Playing with art tools
  • Disturbing peers
The “time out” procedure is as such:
  1. Student will temporarily leave the session
  2. Student will be rested on a chair, either in an unused art room, or in the office
  3. Student will receive at least 5 mins of quiet time

The teachers in my child’s school has allocated him more attention in class due to his needs. Can ARTSTRONAUTS provide similar arrangements?
All lesson objectives and artwork tasks are carefully designed to benefit students of different skill levels. But for purposes of planning, lessons plans are benchmarked to students with moderate skill and competence. Depending on student’s skill and comfort to the artwork, they will progress at differing paces.

Students with special learning requirements are advised to inform our teachers prior to enrolment.

Students must be able to perform the following independently:
  • Able to understand and execute teacher’s instructions independently
  • Able to utilise the required art tools independently
  • Able to participate in the class independently for the full duration
Parents/guardians/siblings etc. are not allowed to sit in class, or provide verbal instructions or assistance.

We regret that students who are unable to perform ALL of the above, will not be enrolled into the programme, or may be withdrawn from the programme.

Where students with special learning requirements are enrolled, the campus may recommend for the teacher to customise the learning preferences (e.g. increase the level of assistance). We seek the parents’ understanding.

Please note that all classes will start and dismiss punctually. Read more on incomplete artworks.
What happens if the artwork is not completed? What if the lesson overruns?
Art is an unique activity which requires specialised materials every class. Every week, students take on different learning objectives and utilise a wide variety of specialised materials prepared for the best learning experience.

All lesson objectives and artwork tasks are carefully designed to benefit students of different skill levels. But for purposes of planning, lessons plans are benchmarked to students with moderate skill and competence. Depending on student’s skill and comfort to the artwork, they will progress at differing paces. Classes may end early, or at times, overrun.

Students may end with incomplete artworks in these common scenarios:
  • Arriving late
  • Frequent visits to washrooms
  • Artworks that are physically more demanding, e.g. sculptures
  • “Time outs” or other disciplinary actions during class
  • Additional learning requirements

Regardless whether artworks are completed, classes will end punctually, and students will be dismissed immediately. No further time will be allocated to complete the artworks. However, students may in the subsequent weeks bring incomplete artworks to class to work on, should there be time to do so AFTER the week’s new artworks or objectives have been completed.

Completion of incomplete artworks are not guaranteed.

Please read further on our Artworks Policy.
